You remember the power failures in the US some time ago? You remember the comments of the German media and German energy suppliers how backwards US technology is and, compared to them, how great and magnificent the German power network is? Well, last weekend we saw the truth. Germany really sucks in every possible domain, it took five (FIVE!!!) days to repair the damage and restore power. Unbelievable. And why didn't they use the army? They should have specialists for such events.
Now, a couple of days later, Sueddeutsche Zeitung reports:
Der Energiekonzern RWE, der für die Stromversorgung der Region zuständig ist, räumte ein, von Mängeln an Leitungsmasten seit Jahren gewusst zu haben. Freileitungen der RWE AG führen nicht nur durch Nordrhein-Westfalen, sondern auch durch Niedersachsen, Rheinland-Pfalz, Hessen, das Saarland, Baden-Württemberg und Bayern.
Nach Angaben von RWE wurden bereits 2001 insgesamt 42.000 Strommasten untersucht und 28.000 als bruchgefährdet eingestuft. Ein Viertel davon, vor allem in der Nähe von Verkehrsstraßen und Wohnhäusern, sei erneuert worden, sagte Vorstandsmitglied Werner Roos.
I'm not surprised. The energy suppliers are amongst the biggest rip-offs in the country, they're lying, they're cheating, and they're fucking rich. But they are unwilling to provide a proper network. According to the RWE spokesman it will take up to 2015 to renew damaged masts ... . Yep, I told you, Germany sucks.
